Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis and hypnotic states to work with the subconscious and superconscious mind. The subconscious mind, or ‘the other 90%’ of the brain, that isn’t being used by the conscious mind is the driver of all the autonomic processes of the human body. It is the seat of the memories, emotions, habit patterns and the source of dreams. The superconscious or higher mind, also known as the ‘collective unconscious’, is the seat of intuition, inner guidance and wisdom. By allowing the conscious mind space to ‘rest’, the other aspects of the mind can be more readily accessed and their healing wisdom and knowledge utilized. During hypnotherapy, the client is not ‘asleep’ so much as deeply physically relaxed, allowing them to access states of hyper awareness and acute focus, actively engaging in their own healing process and fully in control at all times.

Who benefits from Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are available to anyone with a deep desire to change ingrained habits, to access lost memories, to change long-held and harmful beliefs and to create improved health and wellbeing in their lives. It is widely understood that hypnosis used with integrity can provide tremendous relief in the areas of smoking cessation, weight loss, relief from fears and phobias, and access to hidden or buried memories.

Since the subconscious also holds dominion over our dreams, we can use the information it provides through this medium to help uncover and unlock places in our lives where we might feel stuck or emotionally challenged. Hypnotic DreamWork (TM) is a powerful tool for accessing currently applicable subconscious information and rapidly resolving it. Any recurring dream or dream that awakens you spontaneously, perhaps leaving you with powerful residual emotions upon waking, are potent candidates for this work.

What can you expect from a Hypnotherapy session with me?

We will usually start an introductory session with some background about your health, a good cup of tea, and some simple hypnotic inductions to evaluate what methods of hypnosis will work best for you and the work you wish to do. Most hypnosis will take place with the client semi reclined in a comfortable chair, although Hypnotic DreamWork (TM) and some other techniques may involve some movement, for example switching chairs, for optimal effect. Further hypnosis sessions will usually run 55 minutes but I allow extended time when working with dreams or regression.

Depending entirely on your individual needs, some hypnosis sessions may be enhanced with energy work or sound healing; the effects of which are often deepened due to the trance state of the client.

Healing does not stop when you leave the therapy room and I always encourage my clients to write down, draw, paint or journal their experiences following a session and if called to, to email me their updates, insights, progress and questions.
